A couple of years ago I picked up Heartless, the first book I had ever read by Mary Balogh and went into the lost-in-a book zone. I went to work. From New York Times bestselling legend Mary Balogh—and the beloved author of Longing, Silent Melody, and Beyond the Sunrise—comes a ravishing. Heartless, first published in , was a new venture for me. It is a Georgian historical, set during the 18th century, several decades earlier than most of my other.

Anna, far from being the bright-eyed innocent Luke takes her for, is no more a stranger to the shadows of a painful past than he marry. Balogh is an excellent prose stylist, but it couldn’t overcome the Big Misunderstanding and elevate this book. Then you turn over and see the full picture of them together. It would have been so mxry to explain the whole situation but he just let his brother and sister assume the worst instead!
When he and Anna have their first child, a daughter, instead of bemoaning the fact that she is not the heir, he responds to the baby with total love and devotion and names her Joy because he is halogh happy. Written November 3, 3 Stars – Nice but never fab A historical romance by Mary Balogh can never be completely wrong.
Ahora debe regresar a Londres y se ve obligado a asumir sus responsabilidades familiares como nuevo duque. Sometimes it can be disappointing when you go back and read early titles of a favorite author, but no such thing with this book. A wonderful aspect of this book, quite apart from the beautiful mry between Anna and Luke, is the fantastic range of maryy characters.
I love how Balogh allows Lucas to work through the feelings he has for Henrietta and doesn’t just assume his devotion and love for Anna are enough to quench all the feelings of his past, and yet he stays completely faithful to her. Read it Forward Read it first.

Luke’s brother Ashley, young and a little wild, and needing a father or brother figure in his life. I will definitely read the sequel, Silent Melody. Item s unavailable hesrtless purchase.
I loved this book. Life has taught Lucas Kendrick, Duke of Harndon, that a heart is a decided liability. Their eyes connect across the ballroom floor.
The only thing interesting about him was that the book is set in the lateth century and he is a dandy in the French style: Lucas–the best duke ever written in romance novels. Balogh is very talented to draw her protagonists very well and whatever characterizations they have, somehow I end up like and understand them.
Lucas marries her because he instantly falls for her vivaciousness and good cheer – her propensity to be happy. This audiobook can be listened to on: The whole thing is a mess. He really pissed me! Lucas was furious that he had allowed himself to feel for someone again – and told Anna that he had married her only because of the duty of his station. Yes, definitely not this one.
But when she’s good, she’s very good. But did she do it? Let me say up front, this is one of my top 5 ever HR favs, and I’ve read it probably six or so times over the years since I first bought that pretty paperback copy.
Mafy review must be at least 50 characters long. Felt a bit corny and got a bit both longish and boring to be honest.

I loved that about him. Heartless is somewhat atypical for Mary Balogh who is known for her superb Regency Romances and historicals set in the Regency period. View all 16 comments. This guy simply didn’t make sense.

From New York Times bestselling legend Mary Balogh—and the beloved author of Longing, Silent Melody, and Beyond the Sunrise —comes a ravishing novel of passion and duty, love and menace I love Georgian historicals and this one was pretty good, although through much of the storyline you have this awful sense of angst.
He was a dandy through and through. Anna, lejos de ser tan inocente como aparece ante los ojos de Lucas, esconde un pasado lleno de sombras. She was supposed to be a brave woman, but all I ever saw was a coward.

European Historical Romance Review Tags: She lied to the hero telling him there was nothing wrong until the end and he didn’t find out what was happening to the heroine until the last chapter, which was way too late IMO. Unwilling as amry is to be involved with them, he must assume responsibility for his younger siblings, the family estate he once loved-and the succession. Jul 07, Pages.
