I love the three main characters! Either way, everyone is incredibly well written! As we get closer to the end, things pick up and there are fewer clunky passages.
My thought process behind deciding to read this book: The story takes place in The Lexington Hotel which, in reality, was torn down in the eighties. That’s not to say heroine Haven is a lightweight either, she holds agresi own and the conflict between the two is well done. But, as the story progressed, my interest level cranked up notch after notch after notch.
Overall, Illuminate had wonderful writing and beautiful scenery. She’s a smart capable young woman, and I liked her a lot. It really does help. Aime were several story lines throughout the book that gave way to twists and turns all over the place. Lance helps Haven deal with Lucian being “a bad guy. I wavered the whole way through, I hemmed and hawed, and then I just hit jlluminate wall. Go team winged ones: It was a lot of filler I feel, but it didn’t kill me. This, in turn, made the pacing feel off—but this was mostly toward the beginning.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved the pictures and Dorain Greyness to them, it just fit well. Zudem landen sie nicht in irgendeinem Hotel, sondern in dem neuen Luxustempel der Stadt, einem Hotel, in dem in den 20er Jahren schon Al Capone gelebt haben soll. The story just wasn’t that good to keep my attention and add that to the length of the book and the annoying plot line, it didn’t really help things along. Everyone was well thought of and relationships were established and clear.
Aimee added her own touch to the old-as-dirt battle between Heaven and Hell and I particularly liked the original way a good agresri was to defeat the bby guys. Auch die Nebencharaktere punkten.
However, my one pet peeve with Haven is that as smart as she claimed to be, she was very agesti to obvious negativity around her and she was very gullible. With two of her fellow student, she has been chosen to leave school to work in a prestigious hotel, but none of them are quite ready for what awaits them there.
Watching their friendship blossom was very fascinating. I feel like I have a good handle on the “evil” side and how everything works in their hierarchy and process, but I really can’t tell you much about the Angel mythology, which makes me a little bit sad. Preview — Illuminate by Aimee Agresti. Sometimes, I was irritated by her constant self-depreciating remarks, but these came less frequently as the book continued on and were generally understandable, not pointless whining.
But I got a very Tom Riddle-esque vibe from this. Lucian has a certain mystique that makes him a particularly intriguing character, but Lance, the most in-depth character in my opinion, went from shy loner boy to star of the show by the end of this book.
Marilyn Manson fans, the Illuminati and a bunch of vain personas. I would have liked to see higher stakes toward the end, involving both Haven and her loved ones, and then no one would have been able agrfsti tear the book from my white-knuckled fingers. The Lexington Hotel was given an ambiance and vibe that buzzed with life, and I could feel that in the writing, leaping off of the pages.

Feb 16, Alyson rated it liked it Shelves: As Dante becomes more and more unavailable to his counterparts, Lance realizes that if he confides in anyone at all, it’ll have to be Haven – and this begins their friendship. The premise is interesting. What did he do? Nevertheless, after a bit of slow start, the pacing picked up and I found myself captivated by Aimee Agresti’s Illuminate.
As we get closer to the end, things pick up and there are fewer clunky passages. Trivia About Illuminate Gilde The cast was also problematic for me.
XD Haven was a great character but it wasn’t very realistic how she turned into such a soci I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This book also manages to take adult negligence, parental absenteeism and ‘grown-ups are bad’ tropes to a whole new level.
I’m already eagerly anticipating the next novel in the Gilded Wings series and learning more about Haven’s abilities as she continues to save souls from evil. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
As characters I found Lance and Dante appealing, Haven was a bit less so, but I didn’t dislike her, I just didn’t love her.
Illuminate has some intriguing moments, some decent characters and a premise I can see wanting to read more of, but be prepared for some story elements that don’t fit and might actually aggravate you. He has a certain swagger that comes through the pages, and I absolutely loved it. She is skeptical of everything surrounding her, and strives for perfection and acceptance much like all of us did when we were in high school.
